Go Pain? Try Moxa

Herbs are an inexpensive and resourceful tool when we know how to use them properly. In western herbal pharmacopoeia, only a handful of herbs are used for a handful of cases. In China, over 45,000 different kinds of herbs are used to create formulas and to treat many of our symptoms, fortify the internal organs and promote stronger immunity. If you have never heard of moxa, today you will be influenced to purchase moxa and try it for yourself.

Moxa is also known as mugwort and can be purchased online. I recommend moxa that looks like a long cigar like the one here. They last longer and the same stick can be used frequently. The herb benefits the Liver, Spleen and Kidney via application on specific acupuncture points. The follow are benefits from using moxa.

  • Warms the Channels and stops bleeding.

  • Disperses Cold and stops pain.

  • Warms the womb and calms the fetus.

Apply to cold and pain in the lower abdomen, irregular menstruation due to cold, infertility due to cold in the womb, vomiting of blood, nosebleed, menorrhagia, threatened miscarriage with vaginal bleeding, and itching skin (externally used).

Moxa is also used to reduce the size of a cyst or phlegm nodule. In conjunction with moxa, oregano essential oils benefit phlegm nodules and unusual lumps. Applying to skin with a fractionated coconut oil at least twice a day to affected area fortify cellular growth. Other oregano oil benefits include: fighting bacterial infections, fungal infections, digestive problems, inflammatory conditions and tumor growth. Oil of oregano can be used on the skin (such as to treat athlete's foot or nail fungus), diffused or taken internally (such as to aid digestion and help promote gut health).

Caution

Should be used with caution in bleeding due to Blood Heat or Yin Deficiency. Consult with your Primary Care Acupuncturist to ensure that moxa is the best treatment for your pattern.

Ordering moxa is easy. You will receive 20 sticks. It would be a good habit to use them in the am and pm to fortify the kidney, spleen and liver. I recommend using them on the following points and around areas of where cyst, scar tissue and discomfort exist.

When these three points are needled, a strong stimulation may occur. Applying moxa will continue the care of treatment in between sessions.

I personally use moxa on a daily basis during my morning routine. Moxa encourages blood flow and warms the channels. It’s great to use while living in colder climates and twice a day.

One patient reported that moxa has reduced the size of a cyst in her wrist and improved flexibility and mobility of wrist which had be compromised with over use.

I have seen moxa used to reduce discomfort associated with bunions and arthritis.

Apply to these three acupuncture points daily unless otherwise instructed by your Acupuncturist. Additional acupuncture points may be recommended according to your pattern differentiation.
