Let me share with you my latest story at sea and how motion sickness knocked me down.

Travel by sea was an important development in the history of mankind, for with it trade began on an even wider scale than was possible on land. Professional sailors were in demand; however, as the classical authors East and West inform us, not everyone was suited. Ruler and ruled alike could suffer from the so-called “plague at sea,” i.e., seasickness. There’s a trick to motion sickness immunity.

Have you ever been flat out, on your side unable to move, feeling nausea and wishing your world would just stop moving? Motion sickness is a very common disturbance of the inner ear. It is caused by repeated motion from a vehicle or any other movements that disturb the inner ear. Some people experience nausea and even vomiting when riding in an airplane, automobile, theme park rides.

This past month I took holistic and alternative therapies to sea on a 126ft Trinity. Normally I don’t experience sea sickness, I normally treat others with Acupuncture to prevent seasickness which is the most effective tool I’ve ever used. Who’s going to needle me on board? When you are not traveling with your Acupuncturist what else can you do to minimise the feeling of motion sickness naturally?

I love using blends because they have several oils that work together to promote a positive response on the body. I also like to add these oils to my beverage and use them in cooking.

Something that really works for me is dōTERRA Ginger essential oil. dōTERRA Ginger can help reduce occasional nausea by either being applied topically or inhaled.* I diffuse or place a drop of ginger in the palm of my hand and inhale to create a soothing aroma.

I added ginger and peppermint to my lemonade. This protocol beats ginger soda that’s loaded with sugar. Fresh ginger is used in many oriental cuisines. I add it to my stir fry with honey and sea salt when making rice or stirring up a protein in the skillet for a quick meal.
